Why hire me to capture your Birth?
First of all, welcome to my Birth Photography portfolio! Even though this is my 'job', being able to capture this incredible time in many families lives is such a privilege and dream come true for me, so I'm thrilled you're hear to check out my work (images below!). And as you look through you might wonder "Why should I hire a Birth Photographer in the first place?". Here's my top 3 reasons why...
The timeline and detail blur
You might be thinking that surely you will be able to remember the details of this huge event, but trust me, as time goes on the memories are there, but very blurry.
I've had 3 very different births myself, and piecing each of them together in my head doesn't come easy. During labour and birth, the intensity and joy can blur together, making it challenging to remember the timeline or small, precious details. I know firsthand how it feels to want to hold onto every emotion and memory. And when you're in the throws of it all, you won't remember the back rubs from your partner, the look on their face when your baby emerges, or the look of instant relief and joy when you hold your baby for the first time. There's a-lot us Mums don't get to see as we often are zoning everything else out and focusing on birthing our baby!
No pressure to take your own photos
Believe me, you are going to want photos, especially for all those firsts after baby is born. When my own babies were born I remember wanting to soak in every moment, I didn't want to forget anything, so my husband was put on photo duty. But let's be honest, those photos are pretty average, I had to ask/remind him to take them, and it meant he couldn't just soak in the moments either. The pressure of taking photos or asking someone else to do it is an added stress you don't need. So take that stress away, soak in the moments and let me capture everything, including the things you won't see or remember yourself.
When things don't go to plan
Birth is so unpredictable. If there are any complications, you may need to be away from your baby for short periods of time, and your memory will have holes in your story. I can be where you can't (most the time), to capture the moments you can't be there for. As an example, I had a client who needed to be transferred to hospital in an ambulance, without her brand her baby, and then upon arriving at hospital need to be taken into theatre. She told me when I delivered her Gallery that having photos of those times she couldn't be there helped complete her story for her.
If you think hiring a Birth Photographer might be right for you, now let me share why you should choose me...
- I'm not just a camera. By hiring me as your Birth Photographer, you're not just getting someone with a camera; you're getting someone who understands the significance of this moment. I bring my own unique perspective and empathy to my work because I've been in your shoes. 3 Times! You can check out my blog post 'A Birth Photographer was born' if you want to know more about my own births. So not only will I be there to document the timeline, ensuring you don't miss a single heartbeat of this miraculous journey, I will also capture the details you might not see and give you all the memories I wish I had for myself.
- You can trust me in your birth space. My passion and knowledge around birth runs deep. Not only do I have my own birth experiences, I also have a lot of 'second hand' knowledge from growing up with my Mum as a Midwife! I honestly feel half qualified to be one sometimes from the sheer amount of questions I've thrown at her over the years - ha! I know a lot of the medical terms, expectations, complications, sequence of events etc that can happen during birth, so being able to read the room and respect the birth environment can make all the difference.
- I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I'm a great photographer! I could know everything there is to know about birth, but if I couldn't take great photos then what would be the point! So lucky for you, I have a great eye for photography, and I have many years experience in different genres. I'll see the artistry in mundane moments, know how to navigate the tricky lighting situations that come with birth photography, and creatively be able to use my images to tell your unique story.
Now that you have that info, what would you like to do next?
